Log4SMEs

Title of the Sub-Project:
LOG4SMEs - Improving Logistics Performance of SMEs in the Automotive Sector

Description:
Saturation of the market, fierce competition and downfall of entry-barriers are some of the most pressing factors threatening automotive SME suppliers. One of their main problems is the identification of weaknesses in logistics and production processes and to find appropriate action lines or IT tools to overcome them. These solutions are not only dependent on the companies’ endogenous structure. Their effectiveness can also be heavily affected by the economic, logistical and social location factors of the SMEs' home regions.

Therefore, the LOG4SMEs project aims to enable SMEs to benchmark their individual current logistics performances with the industry average and the regional average as well as with the best performer. This will help SMEs to identify their current performance gaps. The project also aims to raise the awareness of the clusters' companies of common logistical problems and to motivate them to address these problems. On a more general level the LOG4SMEs project will help to identify the regional factors which can affect the logistical performance of a firm. Within the project strategies for the three participating regions are developed to improve the location factors for SMEs in the automotive industry.

At the end of an extensive survey within the three regions, a web service addressed to all registered companies will provide a unified database of logistical performance indicators and practices in the automotive sector. Regional workshops will further enhance the interregional dissemination. That way, LOG4SMEs will provide companies with the possibility to acknowledge the best practices in their region/industry and encourage the exchange of good logistics practices among companies.
