InterAgeTitle of the Sub-Project: ReginsInterAge - Definition of Local Agencies Model for the development, promotion and management of freight transport and logistics nodes and services and related instruments Description: In most european transport schemes, waterway and railway utilization is underrepresented compared to roads. One of the main reasons is a lack of knowledge of opportunities of intermodal transport, especially of inland waterways. Moreover, transport SMEs like shippers, forwarders and operators are often not integrated in the changes in transport logistics. To achieve a significant modal shift, specialized regional promotion agencies and the complete review of all intermodal techniques are necessary. In addition, there are different EU and regional policies and programmes, instruments and tools, which must be evaluated and combined towards a concept of an "Agency for Regional Promotion of Intermodal Logistics". To improve the role of intermodal transport and of waterways and railroad use, ReginsInterAge has the following objectives: - review the state of the art of policies, programmes and instruments on EU and on regional level to support the extension of intermodal traffic - develop an efficient model of a "Regional Agency for Transport" and instruments to manage and promote the use of local nodes of sustainable transport - initiate and follow up activities to promote intermodal transport on rail and inland waterways, also by hosting software tools, to promote modal shift at SMEs level and to integrate SMEs into the change process - define a co-operative process among logistics key players at local level, in order to define a co-operation network among REGINS regions nodes, networks of key players targeted to rebalance waterways and railways - To integrate the agencies in European networks to support the European dimension of intermodal transport The new Agency concept will be designed to enhance and support inter-regional co-operation as well as sustainable know-how-transfer. International workshops in the framework of REGINS will ensure the diffusion of project results.
