ELIETitle of the Sub-Project: ELIE - E-Learning in Engineering Description: The computer is an important means of work for the development and construction of products in the automotive sector. Therefore, for the education of engineers computer supported methods (CAD, CAE, DMU, Virtual Reality) have to complete the traditional construction teaching. By now, traditional universitarian construction lessons and computer-based engineering are combined only to a very low degree. More emphasis and more lessons have to be dedicated to these contents, as some of the new construction methods are already applied in the industry. E-Learning and Blended Learning are considered suitable methods for the combination of traditional engineering education and computer-based engineering. Students get to know the necessary basics and conventional methods and can simultaneously compare this knowledge with the modern computer supported methods. To develop such learning tools, necessary contents for the e-learning, as well as suitable information and communication media have to be identified. During the project a pilot application will be evaluated and improved. The developed engineering e-learning tool guarantees the sustainable know-how transfer of the latest knowledge for future engineers. Inter-regional knowledge transfer between the two automotive clusters in UA and BW is ensured by making the latest level of technology-knowledge transparent and available for every educational institution. Common communication and information activities in both partner regions ensure the dissemination of the project results and increase the awareness of the public for the relevant subject. Within the regions the collaboration between the public and private sectors is fostered by a better consideration of the requirements of the enterprises in the education future of engineering.
