FlexRay

Title of the Sub-Project:
FlexRay - Introduction on the market and product series approach of the new reliable, real timable and safety-relevant bus system FlexRay as future standard for the automobile

Description:
For the future development in the automotive industry the design of safety and assistance systems for transmission, engine and driving dynamics will be important to enhance the security of automobilists. But, at present, there is no bus system suited for the automobile, which can find employment concerning information flow-rate, real time and reliability for safety-relevant applications, such as steer-by-wire or break-by-wire. Therefore the draft of new bus topologies is necessary first.

One principal aim of the project will be to construct a demonstrator of a FlexRay bus system. Moreover, as there are considerable difficulties in the construction of such systems, extensive qualifying measures for the final users will be planned. To facilitate the introduction of the FlexRay bus system on the market, an introduction plan will be elaborated by one of the partners. Field tests will be examined and new application fields for FlexRay will be identified. The objective of these working steps is to enable also Small and Medium Sized Enterprises to apply this new technology. At the end the Flexray system will be compared to other bus systems in the automation and/or automobile range regarding characteristics like conduit lengths, network speed, real time, etc...

The FlexRay project fulfills especially the objective of Regins to enhance interregional cooperation: One main objective is the exchange of experience in the various fields of technology, especially in the automotive and mechatronic sector. Dissemination is also a main focus of the project: the developed demonstrator will help to convince interested companies of the efficiency of FlexRay.
