CarbikeTitle of the Sub-Project: Fuel Cell car for the transport of persons and goods - CARBIKE-CARGOBIKE Description: The Carbike/Cargobike Project will be a practical way to introduce a hydrogen-based passenger- and goods transport system. During the CARBIKE project, a design concept for a lightweight vehicle for urban regions will be developed. Suitable for intraurban passenger as well as goods transport in metropolitan areas the vehicle will be moved by human power and by hydrogen-based electric power. This will reduce emissions and noise which shall help improving life quality and attractiveness of urban regions. The participating project partners will analyse the local requirements in the regions and develop the vehicle draft. Therefore, special conditions within the three regions shall be borne in mind, circumstances such as uphill and downhill gradients, road surfaces, or other means of transport. Furthermore, they will ensure that Carbike/Cargobike conforms to all existing and foreseeable European specifications for licencing 45-km/h vehicles. At the end of the project the Carbike/Cargobike will be presented in the form of models and simulations. In addition, regard should be given to all possible and probable influences pertinent to this vehicle, such as logistics, technique, economic efficiency, infrastructure and appliocability. Carbike/Cargobike will be suited especially for intraurban traffic up to 20 km. For greater distances opportunities of intermodal transport (car + rail) will be considered. Conforming to the strategic goals of Regins, this project fosters interregional cooperation and knowledge transfer in the areas of fuell cell automobiles and future transport systems. Exchange of experience and dissemination of the results will be ensured by the divergent competencies of the subsidiary partners in Logistics (Stuttgart), Automotive Technology (Upper Austria) and Transport- and Energy Technology (Lombardy). Moreover small and mid sized enterprises as well as public institutions will be involved in the project.
